MY THOUGHTS ON COVID-19: MOSES AKUMIAH

Let Us PRAY for MERCY Now.

As I contemplate in my locked down state, I am inspired to write you this piece.

For several weeks now the novel Virus Covid-19 has ravaged almost every country on the planet, causing fear, panic and death.

World superpowers & great Economies have been brought to their knees. Medical systems have collapsed, and the survival of the human race is at risk. The sting of the Corona Virus is powerful and destructive like the Devil who comes to steal, to kill and destroy.

The world have experienced pandemics, but with increased knowledge and advancement in science and technology, Covid-19 should have been the least of our problems.

One big lesson I have learnt from the Covid-19 attack is that the human race is so vulnerable to the extent that we seem to be like “aliens ” on the planet we have lived for many thousands of years .This place is really not our home as composed in the hymn by J.R.Baxter.

Covid-19 and its sharp teeth has bitten the powerful, the rich and the poor, it is no respecter of status, position, religion or faith. The mighty are fallen, we are all now like grass and are food to Covid -19 the destroyer. It feeds on our lungs and fatally causes the heart to stop.

What should we do now? Because our survival and existence is at risk. We have taken measures to stop the spread of the virus; are we chalking any successes? I am confused like you.

In this state of confusion, fear and despair, we should PRAY for MERCY, the mercy of God for SALVATION. Aside the preventive measures, such as social distancing, washing of hands under running water, use of alcohol based sanitizers, quarantining, and lockdowns, we need the ultimate, YAHWEH’S MERCY. It is only the mercy of God that can save us from the devastation of Covid-19.

I want you to join me to pray as David prayed in Psalm 57; Have Mercy on me, my God, Have mercy on me, for in you I take refuge. I will take refuge in the shadow of your wings until the disaster has passed. I cry out to God most high, to God who vindicates one. He sends from heaven and saves me, rebuking those (Corona Virus) who hotly pursues me- God sends forth his love and faithfulness. Amen.

Your Brother in Christ
Moses Akumiah.
